Haku Shah #Biography
Haku Shah was born in 1934 in Valad, Surat. He completed his Bachelors and Masters in Fine Arts from MS University, Vadodara. He has done more than 50 solo and group shows in India and abroad. He is considered to be an authority of Folk and Tribal art of India. His figures of trees, animals, birds, flowers and faces has a global essence. His Gandhian thoughts and strong cultural roots can be seen in his work.
He is also a cultural anthropologist and an author of international repute. He has been awarded several awards including Padma Shri by the President of India, Nehru Fellowship, ‘Kala Ratna’ by AIFACS, and ‘Kala Gaurav’ by Gujarat Lalit Kala Akedemi for his immense contributions to art. He lives and works in Ahmedabad. Shah’s seamless quality works are admired by a large section of art lovers and are found in proud possession of leading art collectors, art connoisseurs, leading architects, museums, corporate houses, public institutions and consulate generals in India and abroad.
