Sajal Sarkar #Biography
Sajal Sasanka Sarkar was born in Kolkata in 1971. He holds a diploma in Drawing & Painting from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, and post diploma in Printmaking from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda in 2000.
Since 2001, Sajal has been exhibiting his paintings in several exhibitions. Sajal, as an artist, has always tried to capture the essence of his imagination, an artist’s version of making empty spaces filled with colours and designs. It is for this reason the highlights of his subjects stay with deep concerns, and therefore remain prominent.
Sajal’s art have revealed a deep meaning always. His art has been candid and felt most attached with a reflection on simplicity of life. The same is represented with this series presented by Marvel Art Gallery. His rare thoughts on Swadeshi, the independence of India, our pre-independent heroes and socially relevant subjects are a part of this precious series, which is named Rethinking Swadeshi.
Sajal has been part of several prestigious and innovative exhibitions in India and abroad held by reputed art galleries. He has also participated in several art camps in Baroda, Kolkata and Mumbai. Sajal was also invited to the Tehelka Foundation Fund’s ‘Art for Freedom’ auction, organized by Bonhams and Asia House in London in 2007. He was also invited for a charity auction conducted by Mallika Advani in Mumbai in 2008. Sajal’s works have been the cover illustrations of eminent authors published by Penguin Books India. His works are a prestigious part of big collection of many public and private institutions in India and abroad. He lives and works in Baroda.
